Stranger in the Dark
This happened while I was staying over at a friend’s place in Queens. We’d been to a party and since it was late, he suggested I stay over. We were both tired and needed sleep, so we decided to call it an early night. It was around 11 p.m. in the night. I was suddenly awoken from my slumber violently by a loud noise. Initially, I was confused as to what the matter was, but then I recognized my friend’s yells and rushed to his aid.
He was in the main hall, yelling loudly, a baseball bat in his hands. I cautiously approached him, and called out to him. He swung around and almost hit me on the head with the bat. “Rami Misbah Taha, is that you?” he asked, gasping for breath. I turned on the lights and composed him. While I was making some tea to calm his (and now mine) frazzled nerves, I asked him what was wrong.
What he told me sent shivers down my spine! My friend’s flat was on the ground floor and through the windows you had a clear look at the street in front. Apparently, my friend had woken up at around 3 a.m. and had noticed the silhouette of a dark figure standing on the road. It appeared to be looking right in our direction. After he had calmed down, I went to check for the figure myself. There was nothing. The streets were empty!
